Marek Romanowski
Double bassist performing in the fields of solo, chamber and orchestral music, with a repertoire ranging from the baroque to contemporary works. Engaged in a constant search for new repertoire possibilities, he often reaches for those originally written for other instruments, composed by artists such as Vivaldi, Beethoven, Sarasate or Ravel.
Permanently associated with Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Art Philharmonic Orchestra and the Przemyśl Music Society. He is also a tutor at the Barbara Halska International Music Interpretation Courses in Nowy Sącz.
Winner of the 9th Johann Matthias Sperger International Double Bass Competition, International Music Competition in Überlingen, 9th International Michał Spisak Music Competition, Adam Bronisław Ciechański National Double Bass Competition and semi-finalist of the International ARD Music Competition in Munich.
Winner of the 3rd Prize at the 2nd International Double Bass Competition of the Bradetich Foundation in Denton, Texas, USA, 3rd Prize at the 50th International Instrumental Competition in Markneukichen, 3rd Place at the 5th International Serger Koussevitzky Double Bass Competition in Saint-Petersburg, 3rd place at the International Edouard Nanny Double Bass Competition in Capbreton and top awards at competitions in Andernach, Amsterdam, Brno, Katowice, Copenhagen, Lviv, Łódź, Mielec, Warsaw and Wrocław
He graduated from the Katowice Academy of Music. Karol Szymanowski in Jan Kotula's class, receiving the Primus Inter Pares medal - for the best graduate of the year. He also studied at the Bern University of Arts in the Master of Arts Specialized in Music Performance - Soloist Diploma specialisation in the class of Ruslan Lutsyk, which he graduated with distinction.
He has performed with such orchestras as Münchenner Kammerorchester, Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Brandenburgisches Staatorchester Frankfurt, Orquestra Filharmonica de Navarra, Sinfonieorchester Biel-Solothurn, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra , Silesian Philharmonic, Lower Silesian Philharmonic and Zabrze Philharmonic.
Since 2011, he has been collaborating with pianist Hanna Holeksa. In 2021 their debut album was released - "Contemporaty Sonatas for Double Bass & Piano" containing compositions by Sofia Gubaidulina, Lowell Liebermann and Frank Proto.
